Junior MasterChef Australia

Had the privilege of being able to watch the second spin-off of the popular MasterChef program in Australia. For those who don’t know, MasterChef Australia has been a runaway success with over one quarter of the entire population tuning into the final that occurred earlier this year. Obviously to capitalize on this, the network decided to create their 2nd spin-off which is Junior MasterChef.

Their first spin-off Celebrity MasterChef, whilst entertaining fell flat amongst reviewers and viewers alike. This time round, they have cleverly constructed their promotional strategy in the lead up to their first episode of Junior MasterChef which screened on Sunday 12 September.

Junior MasterChef pits 8-12 year olds in a variety of cooking challenges, much like the original series, however and obviously the judges are much less harsh than when on the adult version. This is also only shown once a week as opposed to the 6 nights a week the adult version was showing.

Judges George and Gary displayed their likeability with the handling of the kids, even when the cooking messed up.

I was relatively impressed though noting that it was ultimately made for TV. Wonder if Gordon Ramsay could ever do a Junior MasterChef?! Might have some kids in therapy with their parents suing FOX for damages!! Anyone else get a shot at watching it?
